Just another day...

Today was a good day. I planned out the next 3 weeks worth of menus using pretty much what I already have on hand. Of course I will have to buy things like milk and eggs and stuff but most everything else I already have. Today for dinner we had BLT's on homemade bread with pasta salad and fried zucchini. It wasn't' what I had planned for dinner but it sounded so good and we are getting quite a few tomatoes coming our way.

The kids are sure enjoying school. They seem to be doing well with everything so far. Of course usually the first couple weeks are review. They are enjoying getting to see their friends. I have been considering homeschooling my kids, but that is one of the main things holding me back, them not having that outside contact with all the other kids that is. But that contact is also something making me want to home school, some of the things they come home saying is just ridiculous that other little children have told them!!! I remember my daughters first day of kindergarden. I picked her up and she told me that she needed to become one of the popular kids!! I didn't think popular was even in kindergartners vocabulary. Anyways, it started with that and only got worse from there. I love my kids and I just worry about outside influence. I did some crazy things when I was younger just because I thought they were "cool".

Tomorrow I am going to try to sweep and mop the whole house, do the dusting, and try to figure out what to make to take to the family reunion. I'm thinking maybe peanut butter and jelly cookies, but I'm not sure yet.

Jill, i know what you mean as far as homeschooling and the outside influence but also lack of social interaction. It is so hard with Corbyn cause i want to homeschool so bad, but finacialy we are not in a position to do that right now.. I also worry about him being the only child, he needs some interaction. There are a lot of homeschooling groups in the area that do music class, art class, gym at the "y",etc... Just a FYI...
I admire you and everything you are doing with/for your family!

Wow 3 weeks!! Awesome!!

When I first started reading your post my first thought was...it cost. Now there are ways to make it cheap but that takes a lot of planning. Time that I don't have. For me I had to spend $300 on each child. My son does workbooks and my daughter does SOS. My 3/4 year old does worksheets that I printed off of the internet. :)

I could tell you stories that would make you take your children out of school right now. I don't think your situation is the best time. Plan more. When it's right, time will let you know. :)

Don't worry about socialization.

Hugs!

I was in a very similar situation when my oldest was in kindergarten. There were many reasons we decided to pull her out, but the straw the broke this camel's back was when I heard some older kids running and yelling in the school hallway. The words that they were saying...let's just say, they were definitely R-rated. And they were second graders. The principal was right there and she just said, "boys, no running in the halls please." I was shocked!

We have been homeschooling ever since and are now going into our fifth year. We are beginning school with 2 of our younger children this year also. The homeschooling community just grows every year and there are really plenty of opportunities for interaction with other kids. In fact, we have so many choices that we have to limit ourselves or else we'd never have time for actual school work.

Here's a brief list of some of the outside activities our kids are involved in: girl's club (2x/mo), homeschool PE (3x/mo), homeschool open swim (every Friday), book club (1x/mo), craft club (1x/mo.), preschool club (2x/mo), at least 1 or 2 field trips/mo.

I know you weren't asking for advice on homeschooling, but I just wanted to let you know I understand where you're at and your hesitations on both ends. I've been there!
