More green beans

I had an unexpected surprise this morning. My grandma called and said she had green beans for me from the garden. I was shocked because we thought they were done for the season. I guess they just needed a two week break:) So, joyfully, I have a big pot of beans on the stove cooking, along with my roast and potatoes that are in the crock pot. My house smells yummy! I'm trying to decide if I would like to bake some bread also....When I cook green beans I cook them for about 4 hours with bacon, and the last hour cut up an onion and put it in there for flavor. I do this because that's how grandma does and that's the way it taste the best. It never tastes exactly like hers though:( Is this the way you all cook your beans to?

I cook mine with bacon, onion, around two TBS of oil, salt & pepper. I put everything in there all at once so that the onion flavor gets in there too. :)

Taste better the next day.

Shannon- you are so right about them tasting better the next day. Thats why we always make a big pot so we can eat on it for the next couple of days.
Tereza-The method is really simple...in the same pot that I am gonna cook my beans in I fry the bacon, not all the way crisp..probaly about half way cooked, then I add the beans along with salt and water to cover the beans. I then let it cook for about 3 hours, then add a big onion. Grandma says the reason she waits to add the onion is because if you cook it to long it wont have as much flavor (dont know if thats true, thats just what she says so thats how I've always done it). Cook for another hour and whala....yummy green beans. This is with fresh beans.
But even with canned beans I will add onion and bacon bits.

Wow Jill, that is great! I can't believe you are still getting grean beans! By the way, I love them frozen. I just put them in a skillet with a little EVOO, fresh onion and bacon and let it steam for approx 20-30 min. They are so yummy!
